doTERRA Essential Oils for Headaches and Migraines

doTERRA Essential Oils for Headaches and MigrainesHere are some ideas on what essential oils for headaches and migraines would be good to try.  Migraines are one type of headache and are caused by stress, tension, hunger, hormones, food allergies, not drinking enough water, congestion, inflammation and the list could go on and on.  Migraines often come on after a stressful event.  doTERRA Past Tense tension blend supports the tense muscles in your body so it may be a good choice for you for essential oils for migraines and is a great choice for essential oils for headaches.

Natural Migraine Treatment with doTERRA Essential Oils - #migraine #doterraLuckily, I have never personally had a migraine.  Don’t be too jealous.  I’ve had PLENTY of other health problems.  However, my husband is prone to them but has only had one since we started using doTERRA.  He said he could see a bright light moving across his eyes and that always means a migraine is imminent.  This time, he rolled on some Past Tense on the back of his neck and on his temples and he could literally see the bright light move away and get smaller and smaller.

If it’s really bad, he also rolls on Deep Blue and that really seems to do the trick.

I wanted to see if I could find any other suggestions of doTERRA oils that would work well because it seems that with doTERRA, there are usually several oils that will work for a problem and the trick is finding the one that will work best for you.  Here is what I found:

I have excrutiating migraines. What would you recommend for them if Anything? Only narcotics such as Toradol and Demerol relieve them at this point. I have tried every migraine medication known to man. I am at my wits end so to speak. I can’t go to the doctor or ER everytime I have one….
      Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am very interested in doTerra Essential Oils. I’ve been reading all the benefits online and I have several families that are using the EOs and are very excited and loyal to them. I personally don’t know where to begin. I have chronic severe migraines so I was thinking of Past Tense and Deep Blue that you just wrote about in the blog. I don’t know.

      • Rebecca says

I would definitely say that Past Tense and Deep Blue are worth a try. Plus, try to find the triggers for your migraine. They can be caused by so many different things. Some things I can think of off the top of my head are hormones, stress, food allergies, and Lyme Disease. My friend did some allergy testing and food she was severely allergic to bananas and that caused her migraines. She used to work at Jamba Juice and couldn’t figure out why she felt so bad all the time.

    3. Lori says

I’m very interested doTerra Essential Oils, but have no idea where to begin. I have severe migraines so maybe Past Tense & Deep Blue from your article on migraines. I have many family members who swear by doTerra and are so excited about using the essential oils

My husband stayed home from work today with food poisoning and had a really bad headache. He said it’s the worst headache he’s ever had. I gave him a dōTERRA DigestZen soft gel for the vomiting and diarrhea and it helped, rubbed some DigestZen on his belly 8 hours later for a stomach ache and that helped, and had him rub 1 drop each of Peppermint and Frankincense on his temples and back of the neck. He said the headache wasn’t going away as fast as he would like but after about 30 minutes it was completely gone. I’d consider today’s treatment a success

    5. Tracey M. says

I also suffer from severe migraines. I mix lavender and peppermint for minor headache relief. I would LOVE to give Deep Blue a try. I haven’t ever heard of it or Past Tense, but then again I am a newbie essential oil users trying to learn how to use oils for my health issues.

    6. tina says

As a migraine suffer (about 20 years) this is very interesting. And being a licensed massage therapist, I am a big believer in contemporary & alternative therapies. I have tried essential oils before but have not found a recipe for migraine specific headaches. This seems worth a try. Thanks for the info!

    7. Nancy says

I have been getting migraines for the last few years, very closely tied to my monthly cycle. I have done a few things that have helped, including doTerra oils. PastTense helps when a headache hits (even my skeptic husband and my teenage daughter have had great relief), but I haven’t found full relief with it when I get a migraine. However, since my migraines ae so hormone-related, using clarycalm and using magnesium oil topically has all but eliminated the migraines for me. Not all migraines have the same cause, so everyone needs to figure out what works best for them.

    8. Andrea says

I’ve been told by many friends to look into essential oils for my migraines. I was getting them 20+ times a month, nothing showed up on scans, meds were not working (still aren’t), I’m a pretty healthy eater… I apparently just get horrible migraines VERY frequently. And have since been on Botox treatments, in which these are cut in half now. Still quite a bit— but I’ll take it!! Anyways, I’d love to give essential oils a try. At this point, anything is better than nothing

    9. Diamond says

My mom just mailed me my 2nd bottle of past tense, I have severe migraines on a daily basis, and since I’m expecting I cannot take my prescribed medication, I haven’t tried the Deep Blue, but I will!

    10. PhotoMom says

Just trying essential oils. Long time migraine sufferer. Would like to try deep blue and past tense. Just tried peppermint, lavender and frankincense today – not much help.

    11. says

Migraines are awful! I get headaches fairly often and would love a natural remedy. I’ve never heard of using the deep blue for them! That’s a great idea! Thanks for the giveaway!!

    12. Joanne Wilkinson says

Depending on the type of headache my daughter gets, either the Past Tense or deep blue/frankinscense will get rid of it. The Past Tense will get rid of any headache I have, I do not suffere with migraines; however, when I use it, my eyes are blood shot for a day. No idea why, but it happens. Anyone else?

    13. Elle says

The info you have presented about what causes migraines in this post is not accurate. You can find an accurate description here:
It is FAR more complex than what is presented here. I came here interested in looking into DoTerra as a possible solution as I’ve suffered Chronic Daily Migraine Disease for 12 years now, of which headache is just 1 symptom, btw. But I don’t really feel confident that this site represents that DoTerra understands what Migraine IS enough for me to trust that its product will address it properly. Just my feedback.

      • says

Thanks for the link. Hopefully others will find it useful. I’m sure it’s way more complicated than I understand since I’m not a medical expert. However, doTERRA has a team of medical professionals who do understand migraines and I know lots of people who have had really good luck treating their migraines with doTERRA so don’t blame the company since I don’t fully understand it.

      • Aaron says

So did you try it?? There’s plenty of instances where the medical profession knows a substance works but they don’t understand how. Given this is a natural product with no side effects, it’s a shame your skepticism of text would stand in the way of trying something that might help.

    14. Pam says

I can’t believe that I never thought of using Deep Blue for a migraine. My daughter hasn’t had much relief with the Past Tense. We will have to try the francinsence and Deep Blue.

    15. Nancy says

I get regular migraines, and want to try something more natural than the prescription from my MD. I have a friend whose daughter uses doTerra for migraines and has had great success.

I am fairly new into oils but breath has been a life saver. Normally I suffer from sinus infection at least 4 to 5 times a year going to the doctors and receive at least 2 rounds of antibiotics EACH time!!! I have NOT had a sinus infection since starting using oils. Doctor Free since July!!!!! I have the full medician cabnet plus anouther wooden case, two defusser and breathe is on my order EVERY month ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ I had used every thing over the years to prevent sinus infection netti pots, organic juicing, allergy doctor ( gave me 3 injection 2 times a week) ended up with hives and a much lighter wallet($250 a week) did not meet deductible. I cant say enough how much I LOVE my oils♡♡♡♡♡

This tip is genius. I had a migraine all day. I took lots of over the counter migraine help. I finally just went to sleep to attempt to get rid of it. I was woken up at 1am by the severe pain that had not yet subsided. I started searching for Essential oil cures and came across this blog. There are lots of great tips on here from responders. Unfortunately, I know from past experience that some of these tips do not work on me specifically. I tried the Frank on the roof of my mouth (not the tastiest thing I have had) and found instant relief. I was shocked and a little in disbelief. I still have a little bit if headache in the back of my head but now it is totally tolerable and I am headed back to sleep. Thank you all so much! Goodnight.

    17. Holly says

The best method of migrane relief I’ve found so far is Deep Blue, Basil and Peppermint mixed and put behind the ears, at the base of the neck and on the temples.

    18. Rebecca says

I have been reading about Past Tense, Deep Blue and On Guard, really want to try them out! I get headaches, but my husband gets migraines often. He was using over the counter pills but they are no longer effective. I would love to have a natural oil that I feel good about giving him instead.

      • says

Well, my husband and most of his sisters have tried them and now swear by the oils for their migraines so it’s worth a try. We do have samples on our blog if you want to try a little.

    19. Jessica K says

I have always had problems with migraines. Right after my daughter was born I had one that i could not get rid of (for 3 days), a friend let me borrow her peppermint, lavender, and Frankincense and it went right away. I just ordered a bottle of past tense from my niece and can’t wait to try it out next time.

    20. Alison says

I’m a migraine sufferer and I just ordered the Past Tense from doTerra. I have used the lemon, lavender, and peppermint essential oils from them and I love them! Would love to try more! Thanks!

    21. says

My first experience with essential oils was getting rid of a head ache. I mix peppermint and wintergreen in a small bowl. After that I smell the oils and apply it on the back of my neck and bottoms of my feet and it does wonders! If your skin is sensitive to these oils you can add a carrier oil to dilute it like olive oil.

    22. Sandy Cain says

I may give this a shot. I don’t get migraines very often, but I do get a lot of very uncomfortable tension headaches. Sure can’t hurt to try!

    23. Deb R says

I have suffered from migraines them with peppermint and lavender essential oils, but got no relief. I am interested in receiving more information on these potential treatments.
