I have 9 of the best whole wheat bread recipes that even a beginner can make. I’m serious, making whole wheat bread isn’t difficult. It isn’t even time-consuming unless you count the time you’re doing other things and waiting for it to rise and bake. You don’t need to sit around and watch it rise. You’ll get pretty bored pretty fast. You could do some chores and even run some errands while it’s rising.
Some of these whole wheat bread recipes don’t even need to rise. Even better! The first few recipes on this list are for regular bread you could use to make sandwiches or toast or whatever you do with bread.
The last few are more for healthy desserts, snacks or maybe even breakfast. They really are healthy enough for breakfast because they are all made with whole wheat flour. Some have very little oil and no refined sugar.
I wanted to use some of these dessert bread recipes because the sandwich bread recipes are all very similar. I didn’t think you needed 9 recipes that are all pretty much the same. Don’t get me wrong. They aren’t all exactly the same, I made sure of that. There are differences, but they are also very similar.
I included some recipes with Whole Wheat White Flour because I want you to know how wonderful it is. My mother has baked with it for years. It is hard wheat like whole wheat but when ground it has a nicer finer texture and flavor which is more like all purpose flour. But it isn’t processed like all purpose flour.
If you want to bake with flour that is super healthy I suggest you buy the whole wheat and the whole white wheat and grind them into flour yourself. You will need to buy a wheat grinder. I suggest this because a lot of the nutrients in flour disappear after they are ground into flour and it sits around. The longer it sits the fewer nutrients it has. My mom used to grind her wheat and if she didn’t use it immediately she would store it in the freezer because that is supposed to help it retain the nutrients.
If you want really healthy bread, grind the wheat just before you make the bread. My mom has this wheat grinder – it costs a little more than others but you get what you pay for. If you haven’t made a lot of bread, make several batches and make sure it’s something you want to continue doing. Then if you love making and want to continue, then I suggest buying a wheat grinder.

You should get into the habit of make a batch of this batch every Saturday or Sunday. Then you can eat it for sandwiches and morning toast for the whole next week. It will keep a long time in the freezer but it will keep a week in the refrigerator too. Make sure you refrigerate it because it doesn’t have any preservatives, which are not healthy, so it won’t keep long sitting on the kitchen counter without molding. I like to slice mine with an electric knife, that works better than any other knife especially if it isn’t completely cold. Then I freeze it and I can break off a couple of slices at a time when I want to eat it and put the rest back in the freezer. Make sure you use old fashioned oats, not quick oats because quick oats are not clean eating.

It’s made with applesauce in place in most of the oil and has no refined sugar. The added spices that aren’t usually in gingerbread make it extra special. This is an easy, simple, moist super healthy recipe. It’s made with applesauce and maple syrup instead of sugar. If you want to use the perfect banana use one that is yellow with a lot of brown spots. The brown spots mean it’s super ripe and super sweet. So yea, the uglier the better. Personally, I’ve never heard of this but she says if you want to ripen a banana to bake it in the oven at 300 degrees for 20 minutes. Makes sense though. When bananas get too ripe to eat at my house I just peel them and put them in a bag and put them in the freezer. Then when I want to make banana bread I have what I like to call them, free bananas. Otherwise, they would have gone in the garbage. So I consider them free.
